This painting first came to me in a dream. The Vision Quest is an important part of native culture for certain tribes. It is a special right of passage for a young man to go out alone, fasting for several days, wrapped only in a blanket. It is believed if they remain within their prayer circle they will receive a vision from the Creator. I have depicted the young man at that stage of his quest. His spirit animal, the hawk, flies over head while he receives a message of hope for his people through the medicine wheel. I purposely made his surroundings seem mystical and dream like. He is surrounded by the sacred circle, his sweet grass, eagle feather, sacred pipe, and medicine bag.
