Water Is Life

This painting came about as a statement about the pipeline controversy that was directly affecting the water supply to the Standing Rock Reservation. I chose a young girl for the subject matter because I felt she represented the generations to come. She is depicted crying because no one will listen to them, just as its been for 200 years. The gray areas across her eyes, ears, and mouth represent the fact that nothing we see or hear is really black and white. It is all for profit with no concern for the people. The blue in her dress represents the water that flows through us, an element that we cannot survive without.
