Bison Desk

The Bison Desk combines a striking array of hardwoods with traditional Old World joinery and long-lasting design standards. From the carved “bark look” edging to the featured wildlife carving, every detail is meticulously transpired. The proficiency of meticulous joinery, composition, use of materials, and depth of concept mark the artist’s skills.

Some interesting aspects of the desk include a unique light switch knob integrated as a part of the decorative molding. Additionally, Brad Greenwood welded a lampshade frame from salvaged steel, which he covered with a stitched rawhide to create a Native American inspired shade that provides a lovely warm glow to read or write by. This artfully nostalgic light doubles as an accent light for the intricately carved wildlife scene. A unique secret compartment is built into the desk that is opened with a hidden mechanism requiring a combination of numbers to release the hidden section.

The center drawer makes use of eye-catching historic drawer pulls and is lined with a reprint of an 1871 wood engraving entitled, “Shooting Buffalo on the Line of the Kansas Pacific Railroad”.

The artist envisioned the classic antique banker’s swivel desk chair as the perfect accompaniment to the Bison Desk. Its size, basic bones, comfort, and enduring industrial hardware are all qualities he desires for the desk’s companion chair. Taking it one step farther still, the artist wishes to elevate this highly functional classic chair concept to a new level.

Utilizing a striking selection of California hardwoods, expert craftsmanship, and time-honored building techniques, he imaginatively transforms the vintage chair, circa: late 1800’s – 1900’s, by blending the quality and workmanship of authentic industrial materials with outstanding hardwoods and artistic design elements. Seat height, backrest, and back tension are all adjustable with original cast iron ornamental knobs, and all original parts are reconditioned. A bison silhouette steel inlay embellishes the backrest. Beautiful elements emerge as the artist enlivens a timeless, quality furniture piece for today’s purpose.
